Yarraweyah Falls Biodiversity Project
Description
Are you interested in helping to conserve one of the World’s Biodiversity hotspots?
The South West of West Australia is a world recognised biodiversity hotspot, with an abundance of unique and endangered plants and animals, many of which are found nowhere else in the world.
We will be working on the Yarraweyah Falls Biodiversity Project this week, assisting in the restoration of 100 hectares of degraded rural land in the south west area. This project aims to restore cleared land that is less suitable for farming to assist the survival of the region’s unique flora and fauna and to support the return of wildlife to the local area.
Deforestation and loss of natural vegetation is one of the most significant global contributors to climate change, due to the release of carbon that was previously locked up in the biosphere. By helping native trees and vegetation to regenerate on degraded land, the Yarraweyah Falls project will capture approximately 25 000 tonnes of CO2.
We will be planting a wide selection of biodiverse native trees and shrubs that will assist in rehabilitating the area, locking in carbon, reconnecting remnant bushland and providing habitat, food and shelter for local mammals, birds, reptiles and insects.
A small cost is required to assist with transport, food and accommodation.
