Leap into Nature and Little Penguins in St Kilda

Description

Leap into Nature will be visiting the Little Penguin colony in St Kilda on Wednesday 8 July, meeting at 5:00  pm.

We will meet at the start of the St Kilda Pier, which is adjacent to the St Kilda Sea Baths, off the Esplanade in St Kilda. Another handy landmark is the Ice-cream Kiosk shop on the Esplanade – go beyond this to the beach and you will find the beginning of the pier.

Numbers will be limited.

This is a continuation of our bird theme – looking at marine birds. We will also hopefully see the native Rakali (Water Rat) too! I will give a brief talk (as I am sure the kids will be too excited to sit still for long!) about Penguins and Rakali.

Each child will receive a ‘Discover your Naturehood’ booklet which is a great way to follow on from the session and continue their nature discovery at home and in their local neighbourhood!

Useful Information

What to bring:

Your sense of adventure!

Bring a a torch and we we will provide some red cellophane to cover the light so we cause minimal disturbance to the penguins.

Sturdy, comfortable shoes with enclosed toes.

Bring/wear appropriate clothing: dress for the weather, jacket, hats/beanie, long pants, raincoat, as required etc.

Water and snacks.

We will be walking all the way along the pier to the end which is about a 15-20 minute walk at kids pace, then we will locate ourselves at the viewing deck. You can bring a pram along the pier, but there are stairs down on to the viewing deck, so you can just leave your pram up the top in sight.

Cost for the session is $9 for one child; $15 for two children; $20 for three children; $25 for four children; under 12 months is free. Children must be accompanied by a parent/carer at all times and are required to stay for the duration of the session.

Please note you will need to pay for parking if you park at the St Kilda Sea Baths. Or find a park out on surrounding streets and walk over – but you will still need to get a ticket.
