Brimbank & Werribee Park Welcome Days
Active in Parks and Parks Victoria co-hosted two very special events over the course of Kids in Nature Network’s Nature Play Week 2015, running from 11-19 April.
Brimbank Park Welcome Day actually fell outside Nature Play Week’s date, but a mere technicality wasn’t going to stop children, their parents and carers turning up in droves to take part in all kinds of nature-based activities in the park, including discovering the brand new Adventure Trail, free range fun in the incredible playscape, and an awesome Minibeasts Discovery tour led by the very energetic, friendly Ranger Rodolfo. Huge thanks to Parks Victoria for hosting the event, Orienteering Victoria for providing an introduction to the fun of orienteering, and to SecondBite for supplying delicious and healthy snacks for everyone to enjoy.
Werribee Park Welcome Day was another huge success, held right in the middle of Nature Play Week. This time, the crowds came (over 200 kids, parents and carers!) to enjoy the splendour of one of the most beautiful, and historically significant parks in Melbourne. Among the many different activities to take part in was another brand-new Adventure Trail, which focused on the incredible flora of the park. Western Melbourne Catchments Network supplied a flora and fauna discovery tent where little and big(ger) folk could get up close and personal with some natural relics. Wyndham City Council provided a fantastic obstacle course, complete with tunnels, bubbles and skipping ropes! And Ranger Helen was the star of the day, leading young and old(er) on a treasure hunt around the park, as well as hosting Ranger Roo’s Story Time.
The best part about each day was the sea of smiling faces, some of whom didn’t want to leave the park when it was home time!
We know that both Brimbank and Werribee Parks will always be beautiful natural places to take the family for free, nature-based fun!
