Volunteer Day-trip to Brookfield Conservation Park
Description
Would you love to get away from the city for the day and discover one of the not-so-well-known parks in the Murray Mallee region?
We invite you to join our team for a trip, heading out from Adelaide city centre to Brookfield Conservation Park.
Brookfield Conservation Park is located just west of Blanchetown in the Murray Mallee area of South Australia. It’s about an hour and forty minutes drive north-east from Adelaide. You will get to see some lovely rural landscapes and small towns along the way. To break the journey there will be brief a stop at Truro.
At Brookfield you will help with important park management activities; keeping the parks tracks safe and accessible for visitors and researchers. This could include trimming overhanging vegetation; clearing plants that have grown to obscure signage; repairing eroded areas on the tracks; removing weeds that have come up alongside the tracks (prevent the weeds spreading through the park or beyond).
Brookfield Conservation Park is part research station, in line with the wishes of those who bequeathed it to the government of South Australia some years ago.
The Park is now managed by Conservation Volunteers Australia in partnership with the government and other stake-holders. This unique arrangement gives volunteers the opportunity to see parts of the park that are not open to the public.
Local, national and international scientists are studying many of the native species within the park. Research into grazing pressure and native grasses is also being undertaken to understand pressures on our Southern Hairy-nosed Wombat.
Look out for the native Australian animals including the wombats, red and grey kangaroos, emus, echidnas, malleefowl, beautiful parrots and many other native species.
Bring your camera in case the charismatic Southern Hairy -nosed Wombats come out of their burrows.
Meeting at the car park at the CVA office in the city centre to depart at 9.00am. Returning back into the city centre at the end of the day by 4.00pm. CVA provide transport and supervision, on-site safety briefing and at the end of the day you can receive a CVA certificate of appreciation.
