Simmo’s Beach, near Macquarie Fields, NSW

Description

Who says all Sydney’s beaches have to be in the east? This popular recreational spot has a sandy beach picnic area allowing access to the river.

A network of walking tracks will suit bushwalkers from a range of different levels. Simmo’s Beach is easy to find from Macquarie Fields and has convenient facilities including BBQs, covered picnic tables and toilets.

Found in Sydney’s south-west suburbs near Macquarie Fields, Simmo’s Beach was named after Bob Simmonds, a local crook who spent much of the ’50s illegally dredging sand along Georges River. He was kicked out in favour of conservation and regeneration in the ’60s but the name stuck and today Simmo’s Beach also boasts barbecues, a picnic area and more.

This swimming spot may have a colourful past, but has since been reputation ally restored to a delightful place for a picnic and a swim.

Useful Information

Locals are divided on the quality of the water, and some days are worse than others, but either way there’s a great sandy inland beach to relax on, kayaking, hiking and picnicking to enjoy.
