Protect the Ocean Grove spit from invasive weeds
Description
The Ocean Grove spit is a narrow stretch of coast that is bordered by the Barwon River on one side and the ocean on the other. This makes it a popular recreational area, especially over summer, that still retains important vegetation despite visitor impacts.
Help us to remove invasive weeds, including the Dolichos Pea which smothers other plants and alters the nitrogen balance of the soil to favour other weeds to invade. The coastal vegetation around Ocean Grove is important for native insects and birds and supports rare plants such as native orchids, so we need to act quickly to contain threats like the Dolichos Pea.
We are looking for people to join us on the following dates to learn to ID and remove a variety of weeds:
– Wednesday 23 November
– Wednesday 30 November
– Wednesday 7 December
