Planting at Rose Shanks Reserve with City of Cockburn
Description
Join us for a day of planting and habitat restoration! Located within the City of Cockburn, Rose Shanks Reserve is an important habitat corridor. A habitat corridor is an area of habitat connecting wildlife populations separated by human activities or structures (such as roads, development). This allows an exchange of individuals between populations, which may help prevent the negative effects of inbreeding and reduced genetic diversity (via genetic drift) that often occur within isolated populations.
Rose Shanks contains habitat for native fauna such as Bandicoots, the endangered Graceful Sunmoth and the Carnaby’s Black Cockatoo and restoration activities there will see this habitat increased.
As part of the ongoing conservation activities at Rose Shanks Reserve, we will be spending the day planting an array of local native species, as well as undertaking some weed control activities to assist in habitat restoration of the area and to promote biodiversity improvement. All volunteers are welcome, young and old, so bring the family for a fun filled day surrounded by nature.
