Wetland Conservation – South Tasmania
Description
This project will be undertaken in Miena Park, situated on the shores of Pitt Water Orielton Lagoon, in Sorell. This site was Ramsar-listed in 1982 due to the importance of the site for flora and fauna and the various ecosystems it supports. It is considered a place of significance for conserving biodiversity because of the rare and threatened species and communities located in the wetland. The site is home to a huge population of birds and marine life.
By planting a big number of native species we are improving water quality, increasing biodiversity, providing habitat and reducing erosion. This project is a great opportunity to get your hands dirty alongside some good company. Bring your binoculars if you’re into bird watching.
