Darebin Kite and Community Festival 2017, Reservoir

Description

Let’s go fly a kite!

Darebin Community & Kite Festival returns

Darebin Community & Kite Festival is set to bring thousands to Edwardes Lake Park on Sunday 26 March for City of Darebin’s biggest and longest running outdoor celebration.

Held in the picturesque Edwardes Lake Park in Reservoir from 11am to 5pm, the Festival attracts around 15,000 annually for a day of free immersive experiences including music and dance performances, kids’ art and craft activities, storytelling, kite flying, community stalls and more.

Darebin Mayor, Cr Kim Le Cerf says the Festival provides an opportunity to harness the City of Darebin’s identity.

“The Community & Kite Festival celebrates Darebin’s diversity. It’s a big favourite amongst young families and a fantastic opportunity for local businesses, community groups and service organisations to directly engage with locals,” Mayor Le Cerf said.

This year’s program packs a punch with an Indigenous music showcase co-presented by Songlines Aboriginal Music Corporation, a youth stage with music performances from talented young local musicians and DJs, as well as barefoot bowls at the nearby Preston Reservoir Bowls Club.

The explosive Jugg Life team will perform their incredible fusion of world-class juggling and live percussion, while in the Storytelling Tent, award winning ‘Kidult’ comedy duo, The Listies, will rouse belly-aching laughter.

Kids’ Own Publishing are back again, helping inspire young writers and artists.

The Nylon Zoo will be inviting kids into their huge inflatable salmon for stories and interactive workshops and Polyglot Theatre’s production, Boats, will offer children an adventurous play space using colourful vessels to navigate urban seascapes.

The Feel Good & Fly area will feature workshops with Westside Circus and encourage physical activity and wellbeing through theatre and play, while the huge kite flying field and a designated kite making area run in partnership with Multicultural Arts Victoria will ensure kite-related activity is again high on the itinerary, with opportunities for kids to make kites from around the world.

The Pet Expo also returns with its popular dog parade and information stalls for those interested in pet adoption, while tucked into the shade little’ns will be excited to find a petting zoo complete with baby goats, chickens and rabbits.

With lots of activity and a host of food options, visitors are encouraged to gather friends and family, pack a picnic rug, and spend the day celebrating at the Darebin Community & Kite Festival.
