Conservation Volunteers Australia: Adelaide-based projects

Description

The vision of Conservation Volunteers is for a healthy and sustainable environment and for everyone to be involved in managing and protecting our local flora and fauna. We have lots of exciting opportunities to volunteer during January and we would like to invite everyone to join us – especially if you have a love of the outdoors and want to help make a positive difference for the local environment.

All of our projects are designed to enable you to make a real difference to conserving the environment. You will be part of a team of up to nine volunteers and will be accompanied by a Conservation Volunteers Team Leader who will explain the project aims to you, and help you to complete each project safely and effectively. You do not need any previous experience as all training will be provided on the day.

To learn more about our projects and to book go to http://conservationvolunteers.com.au/ Click Get Involved, Volunteer and SA on the map of Australia.

We look forward to getting you involved in our projects!

Useful Information

Typical activities on our projects include:

· Restoring and improving habitats

· Weed eradication

· Planting trees

· Building and maintaining tracks and trails

· Collecting native seeds

· Flora and fauna surveys

As your safety is our priority, there are a few things that you will need to wear to protect you from the sun, as well as any prickly plants or the bites and stings of animals:

·         Strong work or walking boots

·         Long pants (not leggings) and a long sleeved shirt

·         Hat and sunscreen

·         Work or gardening gloves (we do have some that you can borrow but it is always more comfortable to wear you own)

Please also bring a full water bottle that you will be able to re-fill during the day, as well as your lunch and any snacks – as conservation work can create quite an appetite!

There is no cost for volunteering on projects, with transportation being provided from 111 Franklin Street Adelaide to and from the project site. Week day projects depart at 8am, returning by 4pm and weekend project depart at 9am, returning by 4pm. It is also possible to meet on-site if that is easier for you, but please contact the Adelaide Office so we can confirm your meeting location and time.
