Bringing Back the Bush, Western Sydney Parklands

Description

This special site is within the Western Sydney Parklands and contains stands of Cumberland Plain Woodland, a critically endangered vegetation community. Conservation Volunteers Australia has been working with the Western Sydney Parklands Trust since 2011 to help restore and preserve it and we are actively encouraging local residents to become involved in the protection of this precious area. Some species found here are found nowhere else in the world!

The reserve has been subjected to various impacts over the years including clearing, farming, dumping and severe weed invasion, so it is vital we take action. To help improve and conserve the area, our team will focus on tree, shrub and grass planting and the control of noxious and environmental weeds throughout the site. This project is significant in the protection of Cumberland Plain Woodland because it is estimated there is, at most, 9% remaining, and many unique species in the woodlands aren’t found anywhere else in the world!

Our team will be planting native trees, shrubs and grasses, clearing weeds and having fun so come along for a great opportunity to meet new people, learn how to identify and grow the unique plants and trees that are needed to help our wildlife flourish in Western Sydney. Enjoy a beautiful day out – you never know you might just get to work with wild kangaroos watching on!
