2015 Community Sport and Recreation Awards

People and Parks Foundation is celebrating another coup for our award-winning program Active in Parks. The program has been recognised for its contribution to the community, winning the Victorian Government’s 2015 Community Sport and Recreation Award for Outdoor Active Recreation Initiative! We were so proud to be considered among an outstanding group of finalists, thank you to everyone who has helped us reach this point. Thanks particularly to Medibank Community Fund, Parks Victoria, Strain Management, New South Wales Parks and Wildlife Service and Greater Shepparton’s Get Mooving campaign for continuing to campion the Active in Parks cause right across Australia. We wouldn’t be enjoying this sweet, sweet success without your contributions.

People and Parks Foundation connects people to parks and outdoor spaces for health and wellbeing. Active in Parks has been developed as a directory, toolkit and suite of programs to enable community to take a leading role in helping all Australians get outside and get active. Through the program, we want to promote the intrinsic benefits of exercise in a nature-based setting. So instead of fronting up at the gym and running your km’s on the treadmill – take your running outside onto the beach, or along a trail in a national park. Instead of yoga in the studio, what about yoga in the park?

Of course, Active in Parks is about more than connecting individuals to outdoor activities, events and programs. The program empowers communities to develop sustainable, cost-effective outdoor living programs in an effort to meet a variety of health and wellbeing needs. Active in Parks also represents a suite of easily replicable programs for local government, community health organisations and any other interested parties to kick-start their own healthy living campaigns.

In fact, People and Parks Foundation’s Active in Parks is constantly evolving to better meet community needs. So while we are always thrilled to be commended for our work towards improved community health and wellbeing, we also know that the best is yet to come! Stay tuned to this channel, or check in with us on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram to receive the latest news and updates around all of our programs and projects. Oh, and fingers crossed for the win!
